In one word, a Bing sitemap is also a XML sitemap defined by Google in 2005. Since MSN, Yahoo, and Ask all made an announcement to officially support Google's Sitemap protocol, webmasters no longer need to create different types of sitemaps for different search engines.
And the only difference between Bing sitemap and other search engine sitemaps lies in the destination to which webmasters submit their sitemaps, i.e. a Bing site map is a sitemap submitted to and accepted by Bing, while a Google sitemaps, Google.
First of all, you should create a standard sitemap (XML sitemap) and upload it to your server. Then you can submit it to Bing.
There are three ways to submit sitemap to Bing:
#First, submit the URL of your sitemap to Bing Webmaster Tools (in order to compete these, you need a Bing Webmaster Tools account, and then add and verify your website to this account);
#Second, ping Bing about the URL of your sitemap at http://www.bing.com/webmaster/ping.aspx?sitemap= (the URL of your sitemap);
#Third, write the URL of your sitemap into the robots file of your website (you need first know how to edit a robots file, and search engine bots only discover your sitemap if they can find the robots file of yours).
And one more thing: if you add new content pages onto your website, you have to recreate a sitemap and submit the renewal one to Bing.
If creating and submitting a Bing sitemap are to some extent troublesome and tiresome to you (especially when your website has lots of content pages and updates frequently), you can ask free sitemap generator—Sitemap X for help.
Sitemap X will:
#Automatically generate different types of sitemaps (XML, HTML, TXT, and GZ) valid for all major search engines;
#Instantly upload sitemaps to your server with built-in FTP/FTPS/SFTP Client;
#Directly ping Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask, etc. about the new or updated sitemap file with one click;
#Go through the generation, uploading, and pinging process at a fixed time according to your schedule (you can set the time at a regular basis—daily, weekly or monthly, correlating to the update frequency of your website).
It will save you much of time and energy, and gives you quality sitemap files and high success rate of pinging. Moreover, it is completely free. You can download it right now!
